The Institute of Exploration founded on 1st September 1971 by some zestful men mostly consisting of Ex NCC Cadets with an adventure in their mind and heart. The Institute being one of the oldest and highly organised Institute of its kind for adventurous activities in the state of West Bengal.
The Institute organises Basic & Standard Rock Climbing Course every year at Susunia Hills, Bankura, Joy Chandi and Matha Buru, Purulia, to introduce basic knowledge of Rock Climbing among youngster (well age does not matter)Till date Institute has organised 44 Basic Rock Climbing Courses and several Standard Courses.
Since its inception the Institute undertake 21 Expedition to various mountain peaks and 52 trekking program (High altitude, Coastal, Jungle etc.)
In June 1987 The Institute also organised River expedition on Neoprene boats on river Hooghly from Behrampur to Kolkata.
Bike Expedition also organised by the Institute through the SAARC Countries (Nepal, Bhutan, India) in 1995.
